How to Control Weight After You Quit Smoking?

It is always the best if one can stop smoking for better health. However, most of the smokers who quit doing so would face the same problem. They gain much weight after they quit smoking. Is this effect applicable to everyone? Not really. It only happens to those heavy smokers who have smoked for more than 10 years. For those light smokers, they hardly gain weight when they quit.

In fact, gaining some weight is a normal outcome. Nothing to be worried as it is the effect of nicotine leaving the body. In average, smokers who stop smoking normally gain about 10 pounds. If they gain excessive weight, they are advised to consult the doctors to avoid from overweight problem.

The following are some suggestion that you can follow to remain healthy after quiting smoking.

• Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits everyday
• They may try out some nicotine gums which are available in the market as these gums can help in delaying weight gain after quitting
• Do physical exercise regularly such as swimming, jogging, playing tennis, going for gym or yoga class, etc. By doing exercise frequently, they are able to reduce their stress as well as control their weight
• Have proper time management to get themselves a regular 8-hour sleep every day. This is to ensure that they are always fresh and energetic. Having sufficient rest is important to stabilize the appetite
• They must have strong determination and self discipline in handling cravings for cigarettes
• Drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday and try to avoid coffee which contains caffeine.
